Editorials and Notes

Banner Notes - May 2010 issue:

I hope everyone is having a good spring! Along with rain, spring also brings sale season and there are over 250 quality entries at the 2010 National Columbia Show and Sale in Minot, North Dakota. The Bredahl family and their team are working hard to make this a successful and fun event. They have even setup a Facebook page! If you haven’t made plans, please join us June 9-12.

Returning this year will be the live broadcast of the National Show and Sale on DV Auctions. If you can’t make it to North Dakota, you can still see and purchase quality Columbias. Please make sure to visit www.dvauction.com in advance to check out their tutorial on the bidding process and obtain a buyers number. There will be plenty of trailers heading to many parts of the country for those needing sheep hauled.

Consignors, please note that North Dakota does require a permit number on your health papers to enter the state. Be sure and have your vet check all the requirements before you leave. Information can be obtained on the North Dakota Department of Agriculture web site at www.agdepartment.com/Programs/Livestock/BOAH/AnimalImportation.htm or by calling 701-328-2655. Don’t forget to make two copies per animal of your health paper and to bring your registration papers.

Below is a schedule of events for the National Show and Sale. Check the Columbia Sheep Breeders web site, www.columbiasheep.org, to obtain a copy of the sale catalog. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone in Minot!
